One of the oldest and most valuable breeding strains in Poland. Pekin P-44 is a table strain with the features of the maternal strain. Developed at the Agricultural Experimental Station in Szczodre (the Lower Silesia province), it belongs to Agricultural Academy in Wroclaw. The flock of the P-44 strain has been bred as a closed population since 1962 and selected for body weight and laying rate. In 1987 a breeding programme of genetic improvement was modified by the use of intravital estimation of meat and fat with skin content. In 1993 the duck were transferred to the Bory Tucholskie region.
