In order to develop a breeding true-to-type Philippine mallard ducks selected for high egg production, predictable performance and consistent product quality, the Bureau of Animal Industry through National Swine and Poultry Research and Development Center and funded by Philippine Council on Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development initiated the Development of Improved Philippine Mallard Duck (PMD) called “Itik PINAS”, meaning duck from the Philippines.
