The breed was created at the beginning of the 20th century by selection of the Podravina sort of local hen and its cross-breeding with Legho cocks. In further breeding all animals with white feathers were excluded, and black, red, brown and spotty were left. Final appearance and characteristics were created through cross- breeding with Wellsummer breed.
