Paired cartilage bone that contacts the pterosphenoid anteriorly, the sphenotic and the pterotic dorsally, and the epiotic and basioccipital posteriorly. The parasphenoid covers the ventral region of each prootic, the upper edge of which contributes to the hyomandibular facet.
