Some animals, like horses, that have diastema between incisors and premolars because canines were evolutionarily loss, sometimes have a vestigial canine in the diastema, but the diastema is still considered between the incisor and premolar.
Many species of mammals have diastemata as a normal feature, most commonly between the incisors and molars
